While I was making a batch of gingerbread soap back in September  2024 my two year old at the time managed to enter the room at the worst possible moment. In just a few seconds while my back was turned he ingested sodium hydroxide (lye) the key ingredient in soap making. It was a terrifying accident Jasper was airlifted for urgent medical care In Winnipeg and treated for second degree burns both internally in his mouth and externally.

The doctor who performed his endoscopy called him "The Soap Maker"

I’ve named my gingerbread soap the one I was making during this terrible time after Jasper, calling it "Soap Maker" The original scent is spiced gingerbread but I’ll be creating other natural scents shaped like gingerbread men so Jasper’s soap can be available year round not just during the holidays.
